Q: What type of setup do I need to run S.E.I.S.mic?
A: Windows XP, 2000, 2003, Vista (We no longer support Win95, Win98, ME or the 16 Bit DOS Versions)
Recommeded Server: Win2000 or Win2003 1 Gig Ram (2 Gig Ram if running Plugin) Note: XP Pro is used as a server in many setups.
Client: XP or Win2000 w/512K+ Ram
S.E.I.S.mic can also be setup in a single user configuration.
Q: How long does it take to get S.E.I.S.mic set up and running?
A: On average we will have you up and running in no more than a couple hours. This also depends on the number of users , number of scanners, and your disired system configuration. Smaller setups can take as little as 20 or 30 minutes. Larger setups up to 3 or 4 hours.
Q: Do I need a fancy network? Will I need special network hardware?
A: No. You can run S.E.I.S.mic in a Workgroup or Domain environment, setup on a LAN or WAN. It's totally up to you if you want to add additional equipment such as Router Amplifiers or Access Points etc..
Q: We are a small company with no IT department. Do you help in getting our network setup correctly before installing S.E.I.S.mic?
A: Yes. Many of the smaller company networks are not setup correctly to begin with or not setup at all. We hold your hand through this process at no additional cost.
Q: Is there a limit on the number of users in a setup?
A: No, However, A limit is imposed by your file system (usually NTFS). There are setups with 1 user to 240 users currently running. We often get asked if the plugin counts as 1 user license. The Plugin does not count as a license. Users working through the Plugin which requires them to login are actually working under their desktop licence.
Q: Can I import customers and vendors?
A: Yes, you can import customers and vendors. There is detailed instructions on how this is done.

A: Yes, you can import your current inventory. There is detailed instructions on how this is done.
Q: What are System Generated Purchase Orders?
A: There are 2 type of Purchase Orders in S.E.I.S.mic. Regular and SysGen, Regular Purchase Orders are orders purchased from vendors. SysGen Purchase Orders are internal PO's generated by S.E.I.S.mic for receiving inventory. These PO's can be converted to Regular PO's or stay as SysGen PO's
Q: I can't ship certain orders, it says (ALL ITEMS ON ORDER NEED TO BE COST APP)?
A: This means you have items on the order that were received into S.E.I.S.mic on a SysGen PO, unlike items received from Regular PO's, these items need to be manually costed.
Q: RF 701 Laser scanner has no menu?
A: This means the scanner and the base station are not on the same freq or channel. If the scanner is on channel 3 the base station needs to be on channel 3. Also make sure the base staion is turned on.
Q: RF 802.11 Laser scanner has no menu?
A: This means the scanners is not in the same subnet mask or router is turned off or incorrect server ip address.
Q: What does CLEI mean?
A: This is used for Telecom companies. Common Language Equipment Identifier. If you are not a Telecom company CLEI's are unimportant in your daily work. However, some non-telecom companies will borrow this field to be used for other things like Model or Make.
Q: What is the Bellcore file?
A: Again this is used for Telecom companies. This file keeps companies compliant with the bellcore standards and is also a requirement for becoming ISO certified.
Q: While in the Item Inquiry screen I looked up an item that said we have zero available when I know we have 5. Why is this?
A: The results of all item inquiries returns just whats available to sell. If you click the detail button it will say you have 5 on hand with 0 available. This means there are 5 of these items already allocated to another Sales Order.
Q: When I print a Pick Ticket, what is the difference between the speed list ticket and the regular list ticket?
A: The Speed List Ticket prints the locations of all items needed for the order. It does not determine how long the item has been on the shelf. The Regular Pick Ticket will find the oldest items and pick those first.
Q: On some of the report menus of version 9 there are options to export to PDF,XLS,DOC,HTML. What is this?
A: You can print the reports as you always have. These are added options to also save the report in other formats.
XLS = Excel Spreadsheet
DOC = Word Document
PDF = Adobe Document file
HTML = Save as a Web Page
Q: Why do we get the message Com1 failure when trying to scan with RF Terminals?
A: In System Setting in S.E.I.S.mic there is an option to use Com1 or Com2. If you have this set to Com2 and the base station is plugged into Com1 you will get this error. Also, if you have a Zebra Thermal Printer connected to the same computer you are scanning from you will get this error. The Zebra Printer seems to change or steal the IRQ (interrupt) of other ports. Never connect a Zebra Thermal Printer to the computer you will be scanning from. Note: This does not apply to PDA scanning through the plugin.
Q: Some of printing options say [Print Declaration Form]. What is this?
A: This is for companies using S.E.I.S.mic in Canada. They need these forms to ship to the US.
